OPEN DOOR - Textile Tales – Session 4

In today’s session Bryony introduced the group to a new technique - working with wax crayon shavings and waxwrap paper. A simple technique but very effective!

Participants took shavings of coloured wax crayons and arranged them in groups - vibrant reds, oranges, blues & greens, yellow & pretty pinks .

They drew different shaped leaves on the wax paper and began to sprinkle the colourful shavings to create fusion of colours.  Some participants were so precise with the colours they chose and the way the layered the shavings - almost wanting a perfect end result,  whilst others mixed colours like you would mix the different spices in a hot curry and sprinkled them over their wax paper to watch the colours blend together.

Sparkling sequins, beautiful braiding and tailored threads were used with the wax shavings and put under a hot iron - we watched the wax melt and colours blend into one another to create beautiful effects.

A wonderful session with happy participants!! Looking forward to felt making next week.
